High School Student
Founder and President, Team STEAM
Currently a junior in High School, Riya Shah is the president/founder of Team STEAM. With a strong passion for STEM and Art, Riya created Team STEAM in 2020 with a goal to give young children the opportunity to explore and build interest in STEAM as well as enable High School students to build leadership capability through community service.
“One thing that many people don’t think about is how much creativity is integrated into and intertwined with STEM. By introducing young artists and engineers to both sides of STEAM, you open new doors to creative problem solving for these children and that is a very powerful driver for me.”
"Riya has been an artist at heart since a very young age. She has participated in numerous art competitions and some of her favorite mediums include paintings, prints, and ceramics. One of her art pieces is on permanent display at the local middle school. At the same time, STEM has always been a big part of her life. She has participated in and won several Science Fairs since kindergarten and is a member of the Robotics team at her high school. Aside from STEM and Arts, Riya’s other passions include outdoor activities such as kayaking and paddle boarding as well as teaching and mentoring. She is a volunteer basketball coach for a girl's team at a local middle school and she is part of her high school’s softball team. Even before founding Team STEAM, Riya has had a strong passion for STEAM and hopes to inspire the same passion in many other young engineering driven children."
